UPDATE 3-Auto bailout prospects fade; last ditch effort made
" WASHINGTON, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Prospects for a Congressional bailout of the U.S. auto industry faded further on Wednesday with little expectation that Democratic leaders would support a compromise in the works, with little time left for action.
The last ditch effort to extend $25 billion in aid to General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), Ford Motor Co (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Chrysler LLC hinged on negotiations that are supported by Republicans and the "lame-duck" White House.
"I won't say it's completely over. I'm still having conversations with people. But it doesn't look good," Sen. Robert Bennett, a Utah Republican, said of chances lawmakers would strike a deal that could pass."

As a reminder of the stubbornness of the US car industry & Congress over the last 30 years - watch the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car?"

They don't deserve a bail out - they've had 30 years of bad management & refused to give the American people what they wanted. Instead they seemed to be holding hands with the oil companies making big gas guzzlers. They destroyed every one of those all electric vehicles. I say give a new car manufacturer a try - one who will make the necessary adjustments with future energy issues, sustainability and foreign oil from countries who hate America in mind. Oil companies have had monopoly for far too long. The stone age didn't end because they ran out of stones - I have no problem saying good-bye to the oil-age - bye, bye.
This is a perfect time for such a new direction with the automobile industry with a new President coming in who wants to finally give the US a real energy policy (1st time in 30 years). It's a great opportunity *IF* Americans & Congress can get it together. -

There are some great video clips in the link above - check 'em out. One of which is a recent press conference demanding General Motors apologize to the American people for destroying the automaker’s EV1 plug-in electric vehicle.

i agree with you there. they deserve to fall into bankruptcy. they ignore what was good for the planet, and now their gonna fall on their own asses, because they were too interested to make lots of money, instead of making a little less money for a really long time.... but i guess this really is proof that karma does still exist...and its funny when it starts to catch up with people.... all im doing is sitting back, and laughing to myself...
